“The Cuckoo” at the John Adams House on July Fourth

Here’s video of my take on the old song “The Cuckoo,” from my talk on the Fourth at the Adams National Historical Park, a beautiful National Park Service site in Quincy, Mass. A sunny (hot) day, a tent full of responsive people, the whole thing smoothly managed by Caroline Keinath and other Park people. Thanks also to Dan McCready of the Patriot Ledger for covering the events at the Park and shooting the video.

The vocal is even raggedier and more strained than usual — maybe A is not the key for this, and I was still coughing from a cold, afraid I’d burst into a fit of hacking at any moment. All in all, though, an honor to be invited to speak, and a great way for me to spend the holiday. The Globe ran a very thoughtful review of Declaration the day before — and the paperback was released the next day.
